If you're looking at wedding venues in Hammond, LA and you already know you want to be outside, this one's for you.
Outdoor weddings around here are beautiful. They also come with questions a ballroom never has to answer. Where does everybody go if it rains? Where do you get dressed?
We're Heirloom Fields, a working blueberry farm and outdoor wedding venue in Loranger, just about 20 minutes from Hammond, Louisiana. We host one wedding each weekend. These are the 6 questions we'd ask any outdoor venue before booking a tour, with our own answers so you can see what a good one sounds like.
1. What happens if it rains?
Ask this first. South Louisiana weather does what it wants, and "we'll figure it out" won't help you the week of your wedding.
A good answer is specific. You want to know what covers your guests and who pays for it.
At Heirloom Fields: a tent is included with every wedding rental, along with tables, chairs, and bistro lighting. You're not pricing out a backup tent the week before. Our full rain plan is on the FAQ page.
2. Where do we get ready?
Some outdoor venues are a field and a place to park. That means hair and makeup at somebody's house, then a car ride in your dress.
At Heirloom Fields: the Bridal Cottage is a private 1,600 square foot cottage right on the farm. It has a salon station for hair and makeup, a dressing room, a full kitchen, and a porch with rocking chairs. There's a groom's suite too. You can see both in the gallery.
3. What's included, and what will we have to rent?
This is where outdoor venue pricing gets tricky. A low rental fee can turn into a long rental list: tent, tables, chairs, lights, restrooms.
Ask for the list of what's included in writing.
At Heirloom Fields, every wedding rental includes:
A tent, professionally installed
Tables and chairs
Bistro lighting
Climate-controlled restrooms for your guests
Trash service on the wedding day and the morning after
An on-site host during your event
A one-hour rehearsal
Booked couples can also pull from our collection of centerpieces, votives, and signage, so you're not buying decor you'll use for six hours.
4. Can we bring our own caterer and bar?
Some venues require their caterer. Others let you bring your own and charge a fee for it. You need to know which one you're looking at before you fall in love with the place.
At Heirloom Fields: we have an open vendor policy. There's no required caterer or bar list, and no outside vendor fees. If you'd like names, we're happy to share the vendors we love.
5. What will our guests deal with?
Think about your grandmother at 4 p.m. in September. Ask about restrooms and power before you ask about anything pretty.
At Heirloom Fields: guest restrooms are climate-controlled, and there's electrical access for your vendors. When the sun goes down, there's a fire pit overlooking the pond. We host up to up to 220 guests (our included setup fits about 125).
6. How long is the place ours, and what does it cost?
Outdoor weddings take longer to set up than most couples expect. A short rental window goes fast once vendors start loading in.
Ask for the price before you tour, too. You shouldn't have to drive out to learn a venue is over budget.
At Heirloom Fields: you get 12 hours, plus an extra hour for cleanup. Here's what the venue rental costs.
